A Curious Connection, A Review in Disguise
Well, not so much that last part…but sort of. This occurred to me today at one point, and I decided to share it-an observation about some of my favorite rock bands and the history of rock:
If the Beatles=Mozart, then:
- The Rolling Stones=Haydn
- Led Zeppelin=Beethoven
- The Who=Schubert
- King Crimson=Berlioz or Liszt, I’m opting for H.B. for rhythmic reasons
- Rush=Brahms
- Iron Maiden=Mussorgsky-I was tempted to say Tchaikovsky, but Maiden prefers unconventional forms.
And finally, I’m pretty sure Nine Inch Nails is Stravinsky and Metallica is either Shostakovich, Rachmaninoff or Carl Orff, probably Orff.
Ah yes, the review-I was/have been/am listening to the Beatles Mono Box Set more or less constantly these days, and this list came out, unbidden, during side 2 of the White Album.
