To Create a World…
The symphony must be like the world. It must embrace everything
-Gustav Mahler to Jean Sibelius.
We’ve been talking and dreaming very much as of late. We’re in the home stretch of writing for our next CD, and we’re working on drafts to 12th Night for our friends at the Distracted Globe. And as we draw the writing to a close, we’ve been discussing our purpose, and the story we’re trying to tell.
And this has caused some awkward silences…I thought to rant about piracy (tl;dr: content providers, make it easy for me to give money for the products I want, and I’ll buy them), and there were a few other things coming to mind, but mostly, I think it’s important to say this: our music tells the story of a steampunk/gothic world. It’s not all dashing airship captains and learned scholars; it’s dark alleys and rain on the cobblestones. It’s the raven, not the Nautilus. It’s the dark corners of the alternate future, and not the sepia tones.
In a few weeks, we will being one of our most ambitious months in our career: we’re going to play two sets on June 30th at McGee’s in Anderson, South Carolina. The second set will be almost an hour an a half, and will include songs from Five Nocturnes all the way to some of the unreleased songs from Musick Most Dark. The first set will be mostly looped bass, but Sarah will join me for some of the songs.
Concurrently, we will score a play, and we will unveil something even more vital to, I’d say, the next 2 years of our career. So if you’re pausing at that dark gate, hearing a seductive whisper…pause for a bit, traveler. We’re going to invite you in. And soon.
